South Africa's largest black-owned catering group, Fedics, has entered the HIV/AIDS management arena, launching nutritionally enhanced menus and food products designed to boost immune systems.
Although not a cure for HIV/AIDS, research has shown that sound nutrition can maintain and improve the health and quality of life of HIV-positive people.
Fedics CEO Clive Smith told a local newspaper, Business Day, that while most companies had in-house HIV management programmes, few had considered the benefit of directly addressing the nutritional intake of employees living with the HI virus.
"We want to focus on living with HIV, not dying of AIDS," he said.
