Star revisits Ethiopian crisis

    A return visit by musician and activist Bob Geldof could benefit Ethiopia's humanitarian emergency and HIV/AIDS pandemic, the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) said on Monday. Geldof is set to return to the country with UNICEF next week for the first time since his landmark visit 20 years ago. UNICEF said HIV/AIDS had impacted greatly on Ethiopia's already complex crisis of drought, floods and malnutrition. "What we have here is a much more complex emergency ... it is compounded by HIV/AIDS, which has weakened medical systems and coping ability at the family level," UNICEF Representative in Ethiopia, Bjorn Ljungqvist, said in a statement. UNICEF said Geldof would visit youth HIV/AIDS counselling centres and meet with local youngsters at the forefront of tackling the pandemic.
