$65 million debt written off

    Germany and Austria have written off Mauritania's debt amounting to US $65 million (Euros 64.5 million, the Mauritania news agency (AMI) reported. The debt write-off, AMI said, was announced by the Secretary-general of the Finance Minister, Mohamed Abderahmane Ould Abeid upon his return on Saturday to the Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott, from a trip to the two European countries. AMI quoted a statement from Ould Abeid as saying the debt write-off was agreed upon on 8 July between a Mauritanian delegation and officials in the two countries. Two bilateral agreements, pegged on implementation of earlier Paris Club agreements were signed. Germany wrote off $18 million (Euros 17,871,669.14 and Austria wrote off $47 million (Euros 46,597,848.01), AMI added.
