South Africa's Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) on Thursday said it mourns the death of founder member Edward Mabunda.
Mabunda died of AIDS-related illnesses an hour before fellow-activists arrived to visit him in hospital on Wednesday.
TAC said Mabunda had made a final call for international support of the group's campaign for an HIV/AIDS treatment plan.
"I am urging the people all over the world to support the TAC ... to show solidarity with South Africa. We are dying," said Mabunda's transcript, released by TAC lawyer, Nathan Geffen.
TAC are presently involved in a civil disobedience campaign demanding that the government implement a national HIV/AIDS treatment plan.
