Church's view slammed

The Society for Women and AIDS in Kenya (SWAK) on Wednesday criticised the Catholic Church's position on condoms. At the launch of a new presidential HIV/AIDS campaign earlier this week, the Catholic Church reaffirmed its opposition to the use of condoms. "While the Church may advocate abstinence as the only means to combat HIV/AIDS, many women in Kenya have no place for negotiation when it comes to sexual intercourse," SWAK resident secretary, Lillian Mbuya, told the UN news service PlusNews. Mbuya said with the country's high prevalence rates, condom-use should be determined according to individual safety and not by religious standards.
