UNESCO boosts government HIV/AIDS campaign

    JOHANNESBURG
    A US $205,000 grant from the United Nations will assist the government in developing an HIV/AIDS programme for schools, the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) said on Monday. "The grant follows a project proposal by the government to develop a programme aimed at reducing the spread of HIV/AIDS among school children and teachers in Kenya," the director of UNESCO in Kenya, Prof. Paul Vitta, told the Un news service Plusnews. Vitta said the programmes seeks to build the capacity of teachers by sensitising them to the needs of children affected by the pandemic. "It is unfortunate that only a few districts can benefit from such a small grant," Vitta added.
