Leaders should do more - Kaunda

    JOHANNESBURG

    Former Zambian President Kenneth Kaunda has urged African leaders to do more in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

    Kaunda said African leaders must devote their efforts towards fighting poverty if the war against war HIV/AIDS on the continent is to be won, The East African Standard reported on Thursday.

    "Some leaders seem to know what they are doing while others do nothing at all," Kaunda said during a meeting with Kenyan health minister, Charity Ngilu.

    Kaunda said poverty is a major obstacle in the fight against
    HIV/AIDS, adding that it was regrettable that people in the West were living on an average income of US $100 a day while many Africans had to survive on less than a dollar a day.
