US $3.5m workplace education programme

    JOHANNESBURG

    Eight African countries are to take part in a US $3.5 million workplace HIV/AIDS education programme.

    The African Regional Organisation of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU-AFRO) said the funds will help to raise awareness of, and overcome stigma around HIV/AIDS in the workplace, Kenyan newspaper The Nation reported on Wednesday.

    ICFTU-AFRO programme officer, Angela Lomosi, said many lives could be saved if HIV/AIDS was discussed publicly.

    The eight countries to benefit from the programme are Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, South Africa and Nigeria.
