The Zimbabwean government has extended its national HIV/AIDS emergency for a further five years, The Herald newspaper reported on Monday.
Justice minister Patrick Chinamasa said the extension would allow more HIV-positive people to gain access to antiretroviral (ARV) drugs.
Last year, Zimbabwe became the first country to declare a national emergency on HIV/AIDS. This was to allow the widespread distribution of ARV drugs, which the government says are available free of charge at 35 centres countrywide.
