TAC urges people to be open about HIV/AIDS

Some 500 HIV/AIDS activists staged a march in South Africa on Sunday to mark World AIDS Day, calling on people to be more open about the pandemic.

"The purpose of the march is once again to highlight the issue of HIV/AIDS," Mark Heywood, spokesman for AIDS lobby group the Treatment Action Campaign (TAC), told AFP.

"We call on more people to be open about the fact that they have HIV and AIDS," he said.

South Africa has one of the highest HIV/AIDS infection rates in the world, with five million of its 46 million citizens living with the virus.
