UNDP, government approve rehabilitation work

The Burundi government and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) have agreed to help fund three development projects costing US $1.1 million in the provinces of Muramvya, Gitega and Mwaro, the UN agency reported on Tuesday.

UNDP will provide $906,770, equal to 86 percent of the project cost, while the beneficiaries and the three non-governmental organisations implementing the works will put up the remaining $150,620, equal to 14 percent.

This involves the rehabilitation of 12 primary schools, construction of a new health centre and the remodeling of another, the building of a 2-km water canal and 250 homes for as many families. These projects have been possible because of peaceful activities and reconciliation in these regions, UNDP reported.

The work is to be carried out by the NGOs DAPADU (Dala Parte Degli Ultimi), which will work in Muramvya, World Outreach Initiatives in Gitega and Fonds African pour l"Habitat in Mwaro.
