Government to lease military base to MONUC

Following months of negotiations, the Central African Republic (CAR) government and the UN mission in the DRC (MONUC) have reached an agreement that will allow MONUC to use the former M’poko military base, situated near the CAR capital of Bangui, as a logistical base for its operations in northern DRC, a UN source confirmed to IRIN on Friday. Agreement had been stalled by the issue of the lease fee; the two parties have reportedly agreed to a fee of US $500,000 per month.
