EU Great Lakes envoy to meet government, opposition

EU Special Envoy to the Great Lakes region Aldo Ajello is currently visiting Burundi in an effort to ensure that government officials and members of the opposition adhere to the 1 November deadline for the establishment of transitional institutions, as agreed in Arusha, Tanzania on 28 July. Speaking to independent Bonesha FM radio in Bujumbura on Thursday, Ajello also noted that the EU has been “trying to find a country or group of countries prepared to form the [transitional peacekeeping] unit, and provide technical and logistic support for it,” emphasising “the need for those who will be part of this formation to come from a Francophone country.”
