Three Sharia judges under investigation for accepting bribes while discharging their duties have been sent on compulsory leave and may be prosecuted, ‘The Guardian’ newspaper of Lagos reported on Saturday, quoting unnamed sources at the state’s Judicial Service Commission.
It reported that the commission - which ruled that judges Ismaila Maidaji, Lawali Yarimah and Sirajo Abdulkadir may be prosecuted for receiving bribes - advised that they be put on half salary as punishment.
The Guardian reported that the chief registrar of the Sharia court of Appeal, Alhaji Muhammad Tukur Anka, as saying that the decision to suspend the judges had been taken after the commission met on Thursday.
