World Bank supports power sector reform

The Nigerian government is to receive a US $100-million credit from the World Bank (WB) in support of privatisation and reforms to its power sector. The Transmission Development Project aims to facilitate the restructuring of the National Electric Power Authority (NEPA) and establish a transparently regulated, financially viable and commercially operated Transmission and System Operation Company, the Bank said in a news release on Friday. It also aims to ease immediate power supply constraints on economic growth and improve the long-term performance of the energy sector.
