Kabila visits Kenya

DRC President Joseph Kabila on Thursday arrived in Nairobi, Kenya, for a one-day visit. According to the Kenyan radio, Kabila held lengthy talks with his host President Daniel arap Moi at the state house, Nairobi. During their discussions, the two leaders reaffirmed the need to enhance and consolidate ties between the two countries especially in the promotion of trade at the bilateral level within the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) framework. They also took note of the potential of the cooperation existing between Kenya and the DRC particularly in the sectors of trade, hydro-power generation and air transport services. In a press statement, the two leaders reviewed at length the development in DRC and the implementation of the Lusaka ceasefire agreement. They acknowledged that the resolution of the conflict in the DRC was crucial to peace, stability and human security in the Great Lakes region. They called for respect of the sovereignty and the territorial integrity of the DRC. Kabila briefed Moi on the progress made to facilitate the inter-Congolese dialogue. Both presidents directed their ministers to hold regular meetings to consolidate further the friendly relations between the two countries.
