Technical teams to continue talks

The meeting of the technical teams from the government of Burundi and the rebel CNDD-FDD were to resume talks early on Friday in Pretoria, South Africa, the South African News Agency (SAPA) reported. “The technical teams will continue talks relating to the framework for negotiations and other outstanding issues,” it said. It was expected that the plenary session would take place at about noon [South African time], in which reports would be given to the political principals, President Pierre Buyoya, South Africa’s deputy president, Jacob Zuma, Gabon’s foreign minister, Jean Ping [who is assisting Zuma mediate the talks], and CNDD-FDD leader Jean-Bosco Ndayikengurukiye, SAPA said.
