EU urges donors to release funds

Ahead of Mandela’s announcement, the European Union issued a statement expressing concern over the worsening political and security situation in Burundi, as well as the “tragic impoverishment” of the population. It called for implementation of the pledges given at the recent Paris Donors’ Conference.
