Abia bans pro-Biafran group

Nigeria’s southeastern Abia State has given a group seeking the revival of the secessionist state of Biafra two weeks to end its activities or face the full force of law, ‘Thisday’ newspaper reported on Friday.

Governor Orji Kalu, who announced the decision, accused the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra of being a nuisance by engaging in “wanton molestation of innocent citizens and disruption of business activities in the state”, the paper said.

Southeastern Nigeria’s attempt to break away as the Republic of Biafra in 1967 led to the country’s civil war and ended with defeat in 1970.
