A delegation of the pro-Hutu G-7 group of parties held talks in South Africa on Wednesday with the peace process facilitator, Nelson Mandela, the NetPress news agency reported. The five-member delegation included the group’s candidate for the transitional presidency Domitien Ndayizeye, the speaker of parliament Leonce Ngendakumana, the exiled leader of FRODEBU Jean Minani, Laurence Ndadaye the widow of the assassinated president Melchior Ndadaye, and former Hutu president Sylvestre Ntibantunganya. Ndayizeye said they had gone to South Africa on their own initiative because they could no longer wait for the pro-Tutsi G-10 group to nominate their candidate for the presidency. He said they wanted to explain the “blockage created by the G-10” to all interested parties, starting with the facilitator.
