Response to appeal “disappointing”

The response so far to the 2001 Consolidated Inter-Agency Appeal (CAP) for Burundi requesting US $102 million, has been “disappointing”, OCHA said in its humanitarian situation overview covering January to May 2001. It said only 15.1 percent of requirements had been covered up to 28 May, making the country one of the most under-funded of all humanitarian emergency appeals. The CAP 2001 and mid term review reflect the crisis in the health, nutrition and agriculture sectors, OCHA said. “To respond to additional needs effectively, the UN has appealed for an additional US $9,685,043,” it added.
