Tanzanian President Benjamin Mkapa was due to pay a one-day visit to Rwanda on Friday in a bid to boost relations between the two countries, Tanzanian radio reported. It said he was touring the Great Lakes region for talks on the Burundi peace process and implementation of the Lusaka peace accord for the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). In Rwanda, he will meet his counterpart President Paul Kagame. A statement from State House recalled that the UN Security Council team which visited the region last month had asked Mkapa to continue working towards peace in Burundi and DRC.
