G-8 spokesman allowed to leave

Alphonse Rugambarara, the spokesman for the G-8 group of pro-Tutsi parties opposed to President Pierre Buyoya, has been allowed to leave Burundi in order to participate in the Implementation Monitoring Committee (IMC) currently meeting in Arusha, Tanzania. The private Netpress news agency said Buyoya authorised Rugambarara - who is under investigation for “contempt of the president and distribution of subversive pamphlets” - to leave the country after intervention by the IMC president, Berhanu Dinka.
