ICRC distributes first aid

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has distributed medical and relief aid to some 2,000 people who have been displaced - and in some cases injured - as a result of a land dispute in Blolequin, 400 km west of Abidjan, ICRC said on Friday. ICRC delivered 17 boxes of medical supplies to the area’s hospital on 11 May at the end of a four-day assessment. The Red Cross said it had registered 2,097 displaced people, to whom it gave rice, beans, salt, oil, sleeping mats and blankets, and cooking pots on 17-18 May. The population movement followed violent clashes that broke out on 7 May when an indigene, claiming to be the rightful owner of a plot of land, attacked a Burkinabe who claimed to have bought it from a village headman. The clashes left six dead.
