Kabila offers thanks

    JOHANNESBURG

    Visiting president of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) Joseph Kabila on Thursday told the Angolan parliament that Luanda’s intervention in the DRC conflict defended the stability of his country and the region as a whole. Kabila, who arrived on Wednesday for a two-day visit, also gave his condolences to Angolan families who had lost relatives to the war, news reports said.

    Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Interior Minister Fernando da Piedade also justified Angola’s intervention alongside Zimbabwe and Namibia in the DRC. Radio Ecclesia reported him as saying that the “aggressor countries” - namely Rwanda, Uganda and Burundi - also supported Angola’s UNITA rebels and therefore “behaved as countries that are Angola’s enemies”.
