The road linking the provinces of Moxico and Lunda Sul - which had been closed to traffic since UNITA forces destroyed the bridge over the Cassai river, on the Luena-Saurimo road - has been reopened, according to an Angolan government radio report. Joao Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade, governor of Moxico, made the announcement during an interview on Saturday.
“The fact that today we are standing on the bridge over the Cassai river, means that the road linking the provinces of Moxico and Lunda Sul has been reopened to traffic,” he said. The 25-metre long and 15-metre wide bridge was cut two years’ ago.
