At least six people are known to have died after an unfinished mosque collapsed in a suburb of Lagos on Wednesday, news organisations reported.
The bodies of four children were recovered on Thursday while two other bodies had been found on the day of the tragedy. An estimated 50 worshippers, including 20 children, were in the mosque when it caved in following a period of heavy rain.
Officials believe work to add two extra floors to the single-storey building may have caused the accident.
A local resident said that the initial foundations were not sufficient to support a three-storey building, the Lagos-based ‘Guardian’ newspaper reported.
