Workshop on migration and development

Devising a strategy that would allow African professionals abroad to contribute to the development of their countries is the aim of a workshop organised by the International Office for Migration (IOM) and the government of Gabon. The ‘Migration for Development in Africa’ workshop began on Monday in Gabon. It is being attended by public and private sector officials from 24 African countries and international organisations, IOM reported on Tuesday.

According to IOM, some 80,000 African nationals leave every year to work in Western countries, while many others go there to pursue their studies. Some never return to Africa.
