Airline resumes flights

Kenya Airways on Sunday resumed flights to Bujumbura which it had suspended early last month “owing to deteriorating security”, a press statement from the airline said. The security concern resulted from heavy fighting between the army and rebels in parts north of the capital. “However, relative calm has been restored,” the statement said. The airline said it would resume its flights to the capital beginning 1 April, 2001. “The airline will operate five times a week to the Burundian capital, with three direct flights from Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays,” the statement said. “It will operate on Wednesdays and Fridays via the Rwanda capital, Kigali.”
