Refugee camps destroyed, UN food stocks looted

Refugee camps in the volatile Parrots Beak in southwestern Guinea have been destroyed and UN 187 mt of food from the UN World Food Programme looted in and around the town of Nongoa, UN News reported on Tuesday. At least six camps around Nongoa were burnt down.

Insurgents from Sierra Leone attacked the town on 9 March, causing at least 10,000 people to flee north to the nearby towns of Mongo, Dandou and Katkama.

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees reported that large areas in the central parts of the Beak appeared deserted, including camps and villages.
