499 more refugees return home

    ABIDJAN

    Another 499 Sierra Leonean refugees fleeing fighting in Guinea left for home on Monday aboard a boat chartered by the International Organization of Migration, its spokesperson said on Tuesday.

    The official, Niurka Pineiro, said in Geneva that the IOM had already help 14,600 people home since the operation began on 1 January. The refugees have been subject to local hostility as insurgents from Sierra Leone continue to attack Guinean border settlements in the southwest of the country.
