Mugabe clashes with the EU

President Robert Mugabe this week told the European Union to “stop funding” the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) and instead open dialogue with his government to resolve various “contentious issues”, ‘The Financial Gazette’ said on Thursday.
The newspaper said that Mugabe conveyed his message over the EU’s alleged funding of the MDC at a meeting with the EU’s development commissioner in Brussels this week.
The newspaper quoted diplomatic sources as saying that Mugabe had “read the EU the riot act” and told the commissioner that he did not feel that the EU was neutral in its role in Zimbabwe.

“He made clear that the EU was supporting the MDC much more than his government and that he found it difficult to deal with an organisation that was financing his ouster,” the diplomatic source told ‘The Financial Gazette’.
