South African AIDS activists were arrested on Tuesday after storming the offices of pharmaceutical company, Glaxosmithkline. News reports said 18 members of the National Association for People Living with Aids (Napwa) were charged with trespassing. Arrested Napwa member Bongi Dlamini said Napwa had marched to the company to deliver a memorandum demanding that the company withdraw from the court case against the government being heard in the Pretoria High Court.
"We were marching to the company to hand a memorandum. A police car arrived and police officers in that car opened the gate for us because we wanted to deliver our memorandum. After we entered, the police suddenly told us that we were under arrest. They charged us for trespassing," Dlamini said.
