Islamic law is to be instituted in the northern Nigerian state of Bauchi on 31 March under a bill signed on Tuesday by the governor of the state, Ahmadu Adamu Muzua. This will bring to 10 the number of states that have implemented the Sharia or plan to do so. The predominantly Muslim northern states have all vowed to introduce Sharia. This is a highly emotive issue that has sometimes led to inter-religious violence.
