Hunzvi acquitted

A Zimbabwean court has acquitted controversial war veterans' leader
Chenjerai Hunzvi on charges of defrauding a liberation war compensation
fund, the state-run 'Herald' reported on Saturday. High Court Judge
Paddington Garwe ruled on Friday that the state had failed to prove that Hunzvi forged signatures on medical reports to enable him to claim over US $9,400 from the War Veterans' Compensation Fund. "The effect of this finding is simply that the state has not (given) evidence which shows clearly and beyond a reasonable doubt that the accused forged the reports," Garwe said. Hunzvi is a member of parliament for President Robert Mugabe's ruling ZANU-PF party and leads the pro-government veterans militia.
