Government considers fuel price hike

    ABIDJAN

    Fuel prices in Ghana could increase significantly, from 6,400 cedis (US $0.90) to about 13,000 cedis (US $1.86) per gallon for premium petrol, news organisations reported Transport and Communications Minister Francis Owusu-Agyapong as saying on Monday. He said the increase had become necessary because Ghana was incurring an additional debt of US $857,142 per day at current prices. The minister said the government could either hike the prices at one go or do it gradually so as to "soften and reduce its effect on the ordinary people", PANA reported. According to AFP, Owusu-Agyapong said the adjustment would only be made after consultations with the stakeholders in the energy sector.
