Action Contre la Faim (ACF) has appealed to the international community to map out a coherent and lasting strategy to deal effectively with the tens of thousands of Sierra Leonean and Liberian refugees caught up in the fighting near the southern Guinea town of Guekedou.
In its appeal on Friday, the French NGO said there must be a "massive repatriation" of the refugees but in a manner that would not burden Sierra Leone. Meanwhile, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Rudd Lubbers, called at the weekend for the establishment of humanitarian corridors to allow refugees trapped by insecurity in southern Guinea to reach safer areas.
