Namibian President Sam Nujoma said the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) may recruit fresh troops to reinforce the estimated 2,000 NDF troops currently deployed in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Namibian state radio said on Monday. According to the report Nujoma made this announcement while addressing people in the border town of Rundu, in the northwestern Kavango region on Sunday. Namibian, Angolan and Zimbabwean troops are fighting alongside the DRC’s army, against rebels backed by Rwanda and Uganda. Nujoma, the radio station said, also pledged continued military support for the Angolan government in its conflict with the UNITA rebel movement.
