Poll deadlock on Chiluba's third term

    JOHANNESBURG

    An opinion poll taken recently says that Zambians are deadlocked on whether President Frederick Chiluba should quit at the end of his final term this year, or change the constitution and run again, news reports said on Friday. The survey indicated that 50 percent of those polled were in favour of Chiluba going for a third term. The poll was conducted by the National Organisation for Civic Education (NOCE), an NGO. Chiluba's ruling Movement for Multiparty Change (MMD) is currently conducting provincial elections before a party convention to elect a party president.
