The UN Security Council on Tuesday reiterated its call on all armed groups outside the Burundi peace process, to cease hostilities and to participate fully in the peace process. In a statement issued after closed-door consultations on the latest developments in Burundi, Council members stressed the importance of an early implementation of the Arusha agreement and urged all the signatories to take concrete steps to expedite its implementation. They welcomed the progress made at the Libreville meeting.
Members also expressed their hope that the recent developments in the DRC would not negatively influence the progress made recently in the peace process in Burundi and encouraged the new government in the DRC to continue to pursue the process of rapprochement within the DRC and Burundi, which had been initiated by the late President Kabila.
