Military talks postponed

Ethiopia said that the latest round of military talks on the
Ethiopia-Ertirea border dispute had been postponed because of continued disagreement on troop redeployment. In Ethiopia, the pro-government Walta Information service said military talks scheduled for Tuesday in Nairobi had been postponed. A statement released by the Ethiopian government, said “the redeployment of Ethiopian troops and the establishment of a temporary security zone inside Eritrea might be extremely difficult following recent claims by Eritrea that Zalambessa, Badme and Bada had never been administered by Ethiopia” prior to the conflict. Zalambessa, Badme and Bada were strategic, disputed locations along the 1,000 km border. Military talks have subsequently centred on the creation of a 25-km temporary security zone, Reuters said.

Meanwhile, pro-government Ethiopian and Eritrean media reflect the continuing disagreements and escalating propaganda around the peace agreement signed between the two parties in Algiers, 12 December.
