International flights from and to the Felix Houphouet Boigny International airport in Abidjan were interrupted on Tuesday following a protest by disgruntled soldiers, IRIN learnt from various sources.
The US embassy said in a message to its nationals that while the airport was open, several flights, including Air France and British Airways, had been cancelled. An Air Afrique source told IRIN many airport workers had reported to work on Tuesday morning but left after hearing of the protest. He, too, said that flights had been cancelled.
IRIN was unable to contact the airport by phone on Thursday afternoon since the circuits were busy.
