Five persons died this week in Guinea during demonstrations against delays in the proclamation of the results of local government elections held on 25 June, AFP reported on Thursday, citing an official source.
Three people died in the central town of Mamou, and one each in Fria, in the north, and Boke in the northwest in protests by opposition militants who saw the delay as linked to an attempt by the government to rig the results.
However, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Territorial Administration denied this and said the deadline for the results was one week after the poll, according to AFP.
