EU report “garbage”

Zimbabwe’s ruling party on Monday dismissed as “garbage” European Union condemnation of the weekend parliamentary election, news reports said.

“That is real garbage. They are biased and with this report they have confirmed that the EU’s real mission is actually out to help those trying to overthrow President Mugabe and our party,” Didymus Mutasa, a senior ZANU-PF official, said.

The EU observer mission announced in an interim report on Sunday that the parliamentary elections could not be described as free and fair because of the levels of political violence and intimidation. An EU spokesman told IRIN that they had received no official response from the government on their findings.
