A helicopter crash in Mutumba Commune, Karuzi Province, in the northeast of the country, on Saturday claimed the lives of two senior army officers, a colonel and a major, Radio Burundi reported on Sunday. The helicopter had gone to the area to collect a wounded person in Ruyigi, the station quoted army spokesman Colonel Login Minani as saying. The exact circumstances of the accident were unclear, but it appeared that the craft had developed mechanical problems, Minani added.
