Cabinet decides on OAU summit

    JOHANNESBURG

    The cabinet of President Sam Nujoma of Namibia this week decided not to send any representatives to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) summit in Lome, Togo next month in support of its neighbour Angola which has raised objections to the summit being held in Lome, news reports said.

    Angola objects to the holding of the summit in Togo because of that country’s dealings with the Angolan rebel movement UNITA of Jonas Savimbi.

    A UN commission earlier this year implicated Togo’s President Gnassibe Eyadema in sanctions busting against UNITA by accommodating the rebel movement’s leadership and accepting its illegally-mined diamonds in exchange for fuel and arms supplies.
