Eritrean presidential spokesman Yemane Gebremeskel told IRIN that “about 2,000” Ethiopian troops had been facilitated with the use of Sudan territory although he “didn’t think it was official government policy”. He said Ethiopian troops had been helped with access in Tameret, eastern Sudan. “The retreating army has been helped; there is evidence of cooperation and it is up to Khartoum to respond to that”, he told IRIN. Yemane emphasised that Eritrea had good relationships with Sudan.
