Britain is trying to block a European Union (EU) aid package to Liberia because it believes President Charles Taylor is supporting the rebel campaign in Sierra Leone, 'The Guardian' newspaper in Britain reported on Saturday.
British Foreign Secretary Robin Cook is to call for the 35-million-pound package to be blocked when he attends a meeting next week of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg, the daily reported, quoting Foreign Office officials.
The money is part of a two-year EU anti-poverty programme and all EU countries, including Britain, have agreed that it should be released as soon as possible, the daily added.
