Mandela starts three-day visit

The facilitator of the Burundi peace talks, Nelson Mandela, arrived in Bujumbura on Monday afternoon for a three-day visit to the country, an official from the Mandela Foundation in South Africa confirmed to IRIN. A statement from the Foundation said Mandela was accompanied by his chief advisor Genl Masondo and his support staff. It said Mandela would be joined in Bujumbura by Uganda's prime minister who will be representing President Yoweri Museveni. Mandela will visit a prison in Bujumbura, one
regroupment camp, have meetings with religious leaders, the judiciary, the cabinet, members of the civil society and address the national assembly, the defence force and a public gathering. He is expected to return to South Africa on 14 June.
