The World Bank's Board of Executive Directors on Monday discussed a new US $450 million Country Assistance Strategy (CAS) for Mozambique for fiscal years 2001-2003. The bank said in a statement that the new CAS will work to reduce poverty at all levels.
"The objectives of the new CAS for Mozambique reflect the extensive consultations the Bank had with a wide variety of groups, such as government officials, trade unions, religious leaders, academics, journalists, private sector, the rural poor and NGOs," said James Coates, Country Representative for Mozambique.
"These groups agree that the main priorities of Mozambique's development agenda are to address the high rates of poverty, illiteracy, isolation, and disease, and ensure that economic growth is felt at all levels," Coates added.
